The public IP address is the address that servers and online services see when you connect to the Internet. If you are using a VPN, proxy, or CDN, the reported IP address may differ from your direct connection.

IPv4 has four numeric groups separated by dots (e.g. 203.0.113.10) and the address space is limited. IPv6 uses eight hexadecimal groups separated by colons (e.g. 2001:db8::1) and offers far more addresses. The tool shows both if they are available.
